About the Stonespine Dragon:

Bestiary entry:
The Stonespine Dragon is a fearsome beast that thrives in a wide range of environments, though they usually prefers to live in lush forests.  The species is most commonly recognized by its gray scales with green spikes.  Red variants have been seen living in deep underground caverns or nearby active volcanoes.

Stonespine dragons take about 30 years to reach their maximum size and their average lifespan is roughly 120 years.  A fully grown adult Stonespine can reach lengths of 50 feet and have wingspans of over 80 feet.  Stonespine dragons are known to get along well with other sentient species.  They only kill for food or when they feel threatened.  When they do need to fight, they are fearsome foes.

Arsenal:
A Stonespine's body is completely covered with thick scales. The scales are extremely durable and can withstand most physical harm.  Guns, explosives, and fire are completely ineffective against these dragons.  The scales themselves offer no protection against magic, however the dragons cast powerful warding magic to mitigate any damage from other spells.

Despite their heavy armor-plate scales, a Stonespine is surprisingly agile.  A Stonespine can utilize their wings to glide for long periods of time, but they prefer fighting on the ground.  They can run at speeds around 60 miles per hour with relative ease.  If needed, they can sprint at speeds up to 90 miles per hour for short bursts.  However, it will lead them exhausted and weaken their protective spells.  This means they will be temporarily vulnerable to enemy magic.

The dragon's claws and brute strength are their main weapons.  All discolored* parts of a Stonespine can endure more damage compared to their normal scale.  Usually as the dragon ages, their claws and horns end up the most discolored.  Albeit uncommon, the scales on a Stonespine can go through a discoloring phase to harden as well.  These tough claws can rip stone and steel like paper.  Stonespine dragons are exceptionally strong as well.  They can throw military grade tanks hundreds of feet and punch with enough force to topple ten story buildings.

Similar to other dragons, a Stonespine can use powerful magic if they need to fight from a distance.  They commonly use wind magic or fire spells (since they can't naturally breath fire).  Other notable spells include water manipulation, telepathy, weak mind control, and protective counter magic.

Stonespines are one of the more intelligent species of dragon.  Their highly developed brains allow them to speak human languages and to other animals/creatures.  In combat, they stay on the defensive at first in order to evaluate their opponent.  After determining the fighting style of their enemy, the dragon responds with their best counter offensive.  If a Stonespine is caught off guard, they will retreat to reevaluate their foe.

Rifend Universe:
The Rifend Universe is going to be where some of my original characters exist.  A task force similar to Blizzard's Overwatch operates in secret to protect humankind from a plethora of dangerous foes.  In this world, both magic and advanced technology exist.  Rifend is an anagram of the word friend because each character in this universe will be based on one of my friends from real life.
